Birthed from the depths of the American freak underground, Horicon Marsh presents an idiosyncratic harsh psychedelia, melding sheets of noise and heavy basslines to field recordings, ethereal dubbed vox, and organ drones. Comprised of the same Midwestern romantic and creative partnership behind Mystery Grime, Damp Sage, Terrible Pleasures, and, in part, Dogweed, "Isms and Schisms" represents their first officially recorded offering after a series of demos and rehearsals surfaced online, in addition to intermittent live aktions across the Front Range of Colorado. Presented on tape by Terrible Pleasures, the a-side begins with a tight psych burner that devolves into the sound of industrial entropy. This is followed by a raw and stark cover of Mooney-era Can, faithful to the original but stripped down to the bone. The b-side opens with a track that references the duo's work in the improv instrumental beat collective Dogweed, and which functions as a hypnotic, trance-inducing groove. The tape ends with live centerpiece "Five Points" which has held its own against harsh noise acts but which also stands as a prime example of fractal-mind peaking psychedelia.
